Thanksgiving

Dear Friends,

On Sunday afternoon a group of youth from St. Mary’s joined with other youth from the Charles River Deanery at Grace Church in Newton Corner to make pies for our local food pantries. [See previous post for pictures.]

The scene was fairly chaotic (as big groups of teenagers tend to be) and the noise was deafening, but the result was amazing. Together, we made 66 pies to be given as tokens of our love and support to hungry families this Thanksgiving holiday. During the worship service we shared in the middle of the project one young person remarked that we show God’s love simply by giving a pie. I’m not sure truer words have been spoken by any theologian!

The following is a prayer for Thanksgiving:
Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks for the fruits of the earth in their season and for the labors of those who harvest them. Make us, we pray, faithful stewards of your great bounty, for the provision of our necessities and the relief of all who are in need, to the glory of your Name; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
